Jennings
Ken Jennings’s
Trivia Almanac is the ingeniously organized book where, for a
change, the all-time Jeopardy! champ gets to ask the
questions–and where every day of the year will give you the
chance to test your trivia mettle.

NFL quarterbacks have four Super Bowl rings each?* What rings
are divided by the Cassini Division?** Also on this date, in
1981, the “goth” music scene was born in London, so here’s
a quiz on black-clad icons like Darth Vader, Johnny Cash, and
Zorro. Do you know the secret identities of Ivanhoe’s Black
Knight*** or Men in Black’s Agent M****?
In this ultimate book for trivia buffs and other assorted
know-it-alls, the 365 entries feature “This Day in History”
factoids, trivia quizzes, and questions categorized by Jennings
as “Easy,” “Hard,” and “Yeah, Good Luck.” Topics
cover every subject under the sun, from paleontology to mixology,
sports feats to Bach suites, medieval popes to daytime soaps.
This addictive gathering of facts, oddities, devilishly clever
quizzes, and other flights of fancy will make each day a fun and
intriguing new challenge.

Jeff
Kaye
Jeff
Kaye recently retired as a sergeant from the Reno Nevada Police
Department. He spent the majority of his twenty-four years in
law enforcement working in various undercover operations,
including supervision of a multi-jurisdictional narcotics task
force. Mr. Kaye holds a degree in Criminal Justice and
throughout his career has been called upon to offer expert
testimony in undercover operations, clandestine lab enforcement,
and undercover operative stress syndromes.
Mr.
Kaye currently resides in La Quinta California with his wife and
two children. He keeps busy with his full time writing career
while remaining active in law enforcement training through his
work with the California Narcotics Officers Association. TWO
FACES HAVE I is Mr. Kaye's first novel. He recently
completed his second novel entitled "MAINLINE,"
and hopes to have it released in the near future.
About
His Books:
TWO
FACES HAVE I is a novel
that looks at undercover police operations from the vantage
point of the person actually doing the work. It is not just a
good guy versus bad guy story, with good triumphing over evil in
the end. The basic premise of this book is there are good and
bad people on both sides of the law, and it is often just a
simple twist of fate which separates people along the road of
life. The reader will be treated to a roller coaster ride of
emotions as this story of murder and deceit winds its way
through the glitter of Nevada 's gambling towns.
Undercover
operations have long been law enforcement's dirty little secret.
The psychological traumas and physical dangers posed to the
undercover operative far outweigh the benefits reaped by most
undercover operations. The storyline in TWO FACES HAVE I is
fiction, but the emotions and traumas experienced by the
characters in the book are as real as the paper it is written
on. The author brings his own undercover experiences into his
work, and gives the reader a realistic look into a world only
someone who has been there can accurately write about.
Coming April
2008
Mainline: A Novel
A
potent new strain of Southeast Asian heroin is making its way
across the United States via the smuggling route drug runners
affectionately call the MAINLINE. As the body count
rises, Reno Police Detective Sergeant JAKE SLATER must find a
way to stop it before more innocent people are killed.
Known
as Poderoso Blanco—powerful
white—the drug is taking its toll on cities all along the
Mainline. A grizzly find on New Year’s Day 2000 proves Reno
has fallen prey to the white death. The discovery made by Reno
P.D. Officers Mike Mardrosky and Danny Parks inadvertently
begins a chain of events that will land Jake Slater in the
biggest case of his career.
Coming Fall 2008
Beware of the Cable Guy: A True Story
Forty-seven-year
old David Stephen Middleton is currently sitting on death row in
Ely Nevada State Prison awaiting execution. His death sentence
is the result of convictions for two murders committed in Reno
Nevada in 1995 while he was employed as a cable T.V. installer.
His latest appeal was denied in August of 2007, but this surely
will not be the last appeal in a journey that took him from
being a respected police officer with the Miami Metro-Dade
Police Department to a convicted serial killer.
A
serial killer is a person who commits three or more murders
during separate incidents. This differs from a spree killer, who
is a person who commits three or more murders during the same
incident. Research shows David Middleton to be the only modern
day former law enforcement officer known to fit the definition
of a serial killer. Although he has only been convicted of the
two Reno murders thus far, law enforcement investigators are
certain there is at least one other he is responsible for.
BEWARE
OF THE CABLE GUY is not
the story of David Middleton. It is a story of heinous
crimes committed against people whose only mistake was to put
trust in a person who had been placed in trusted positions. A
police officer, a health care worker, and a cable T.V. installer
are jobs the normal person would expect to be filled by people
who have had their backgrounds sufficiently checked. David
Middleton slipped through the cracks, but one needs to ask
themselves how many other people like him exist before putting
trust into those we allow into our homes and lives.
