George Englund
began his career in the entertainment industry, first on the
stage in New York, then in films in Hollywood. After producing
and directing plays in Palm Beach, Florida, and in summer stock
theaters, he directed the first revival of Brigadoon at the City
Center in New York City where he worked closely with the
creators, Alan Lerner and Fritz Loewe.
Englund
headed Marlon Brando's production company, producing and
directing the critically acclaimed Brando epic, "The Ugly
American." The long friendship between Englund and Brando
flourishes until Brandos death. Englund made a number of other
films including; "The World the Flesh and the Devil"
starring Harry Belafonte, "Dark of the Sun" starring
football hall-of-famer Jim Brown, "The Shoes of the
Fisherman" starring Anthony Quinn and Lord Lawrence
Olivier, "Snow Job" starring legendary skier Jean
Claude Killy and "Zacharia" starring Miami Vice star
Don Johnson.
In television, Englund produced, wrote and or directed two hours
films, including; "See How She Runs" starring Joanne
Woodward, earning her the Emmy for best actress. "A
Christmas to Remember" starring Jason Robards, "Dixie
Changing Habits" starring Cloris Leachman and Suzanne
Pleshette, "The Vegas Strip Wars" starring Rock Hudson
and Sharon Stone and "Challenger" which chronicled the
history of the ill-fated space shuttle. |
In 1980, Englund challenged the boundaries of the IMAX large
screen format by writing, producing and directing the first
comedy/drama film ever produced in this medium with "My
Strange Uncle".
Englund performed as a literary agent for Marlon Brando, attaining
the unprecedented advance of five million dollars for Brando's
autobiography. He also represented Panamanian General Manuel Noriega whose
autobiography he sold to Random House Publishers.
Subsequently he partnered with Paul Newman in the Newman-Englund
Company. Englund has held a wide array of consultant/adviser
positions,
including: Caesar's World/Caesar's Palace, The Kennedy
Foundation in Washington, D.C., Hanson PLC in the United
Kingdom. Also, personal adviser to Lord Hanson, Chairman.
Author Sidney Sheldon., The Shah of Iran, for whom
Englund created a comprehensive film program to chronicle the
Shah's goal of Iran becoming the world's 6th most powerful
nation.
Mr. Englund has had extensive negotiations with NASA, the
Vatican, the governments of Thailand and New Zealand, and the
State Department and the Executive Branch of the US government.
He has had comprehensive dealings with labor unions,
universities and corporations.
Articulate, witty and passionate, he is a man of unique vision
whose insight, imagination and knowledge continually deliver
remarkable results.
Mr. Englund offers his services for consultation, mediation,
writing, directing and producing.
Mr. Englund's book, The Way It's Never Been Done Before - My
Friendship With Marlon Brando, was published by Harper
Collins in November, 2004. |
